A Smarter, Stronger, More Reliable Way to Protect Your Florida Home
Here in Florida, a roof isn’t just part of your home… it’s your primary defense system.
High winds, wind-driven rain, hail, and hurricanes test the entire roofing structure. And here’s the problem…
While Florida building code is among the best in the country… its not the strongest option available.
FORTIFIED® takes protection beyond code.

What Is the FORTIFIED® Roofing Program?
FORTIFIED is a construction and re-roofing standard developed and managed by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS), designed to be completed by contractors that undergo training and certification in these standards.
It strengthens homes against:
High winds
Hurricanes
Wind-driven rain
Hail up to 2 inches
Severe pressure forces
Unlike traditional code, FORTIFIED standards are based on decades of forensic storm research and full-scale wind testing in the only facility in the world that can simulate real hurricane conditions.
This is science-driven construction.

Why Building Code Isn’t Enough
Florida Building Code sets the baseline for construction and safety requirements.
But the building code alone:
Represents minimum compliance
Tends to be improved only after major storm failures and those improvements take years to identify and put into practice
Doesn’t always eliminate known weak points
Storm with winds as low as 50 mph can cause serious roof damage. Once water enters the home, repair costs escalate quickly.
FORTIFIED sets out to address those vulnerabilities before they become problems
How FORTIFIED® Strengthens Your Roof
1. Stronger Roof Deck Attachment
Enhanced nail patterns, fastening methods and material requirements increase resistance to wind uplift.
2. Sealed Roof Deck (Secondary Water Barrier)
If shingles fail, a sealed underlayment prevents water intrusion…dramatically reducing interior damage.
3. Reinforced Roof Edges
Upgraded edge attachment protects the most vulnerable areas of your roof from peel-back failure.
These targeted upgrades address the most common storm failure points.
FORTIFIED® Certification Matters
FORTIFIED requires:
Trained contractors, that undergo testing, certification and vetting
Documented installation throughout the process
Mid build, third-party inspection by FORTIFIED, certified inspectors who are trained on the standarsd necessary for certification of the roof system
Official certification nationally recognized by insurance underwriters
This additional third-party verification ensures your roof truly meets the standard.
Insurance & Financial Benefits
Many Florida insurers offer FORTIFIED certified homes:
Premium discounts
Wind mitigation credits
Improved insurability
In Florida’s currrent homeowners insurance market, a stronger, more insurable roof is a big deal.
Does a FORTIFIED® Roof Cost More?
Yes… slightly.
But when installed during a re-roof, the cost difference is often modest compared to:
Interior restoration
Mold remediation
Deductibles
Claim-related premium increases
Florida building code already requires some of the FORTIFIED upgrades such as a sealed deck, but the additional third party inspections and certification process do carry additional charges.
4D Roofing & Restoration strives to bring the cost of upgrading to a FORTIFIED roof in in line with standard roof replacements and often the additonal cost is relatively small.
Is FORTIFIED® Worth It?
If you plan to stay in your home, live in a high-wind area, or want maximum protection and insurance stability, FORTIFIED is a strong investment.
Code meets minimum requirements.
FORTIFIED builds beyond them.
The Bottom Line
