Denied, Underpaid or Under-Deductible Hurricane Milton Claim?

(You May Still Have Options)

Hurricane Milton made landfall on October 9, 2024, as a Category 3 storm. For Florida homeowners, that triggered a 12-month deadline to file an insurance claim related to storm damage. That filing window has now expired.

There may still be options

Many homeowners did file on time and were later told their claim was denied, underpaid, or resulted in no payment at all.

In many cases, the issue was not actually a true denial…it was a hurricane deductible issue.

Most Florida homeowners insurance policies include a special hurricane deductible, typically 2% of the home’s insured value. On an average home, that deductible may be $6,000–$12,000 or more.

If the insurance company determined the value of damage did not exceed that deductible amount, they issue no payment. To a homeowner, this often feels like a denial…even though the carrier may still be acknowledging there was damage.

This distinction matters.

Where Things Often Went Wrong (Post Hurricane Milton)…

In our experience, Hurricane Milton claim files were frequently underdeveloped due to:

  • Inexperienced or out-of-town contractors working the storm

  • Adjusters overwhelmed by claim volume

  • Incomplete/Improper damage documentation

  • Failure to address repairability vs. replacement

  • Overlooking discontinued materials

  • Missing code upgrade requirements under Florida Building Code

In short, the file was not “worked” properly. (Either by the carrier or the contractor)

What 4D Roofing & Restoration Does (and Does Not Do)

We are not public adjusters…we do not “negotiate” insurance claims or interpret policy language.

We ARE a Licensed Florida Roofing Contractor…what we do is take a construction-first

approach by:

Florida Roof Inspections
Construction First Roof Claim Assessments
  • Reviewing your insurance adjuster’s scope and summary

  • Evaluating whether your damage was fully documented

  • Assessing proper repair methods using construction best practices

  • Determining repairability vs. replacement

  • Identifying discontinued roofing materials

  • Evaluating what it would take to bring your roof up to current Florida building codes

Often, once these construction best practices are properly documented, the original outcome no longer makes sense.

Important Deadline: April 9, 2026

Florida homeowners actually have 18 months from the date of loss to reopen or dispute a claim that was underpaid or incorrectly scoped. (Even if you have a new insurance carrier now)

For Hurricane Milton, that deadline is: April 9, 2026

The clock is running, but there is still time.

What To Do Now:

If your Hurricane Milton claim was:

  • Denied

  • Paid below expectations

  • Or resulted in no payment due to the deductible
